Robbie Chilcott had already spent almost three hours in knockout matches when the Redcliffe billiards player reached the Queensland State Billiards Championship final with a third consecutive title still within reach. After two years as state champion, one more match stood between him and a three-peat.
The 2026 championship was held at Redlands RSL in August, with Chilcott finishing the round-robin stage as the top seed before moving into the knockout rounds. He faced Jacky Chen in the quarter-finals and later reached the two-hour final against Stephen Burford.
Chilcott said he went through the tournament undefeated. After a 75-minute quarter-final, he defeated Jayden Dinga by 120 points in the 90-minute semi-final, then established an early advantage against Burford through a series of consistent scoring breaks.
By the end of the final, Chilcott had spent four hours and 45 minutes in competition that day. The victory completed the result he had set out to achieve — three successive Queensland State Billiards Championships.
A title run begins in Redcliffe
Chilcott’s run began in 2024, shortly after he had settled in Redcliffe and made Redcliffe Snooker Club his home base. Tournament records show he emerged from the group stage with a 2–1 record before winning four consecutive knockout matches to finish first, ahead of Hayden Goode, Graham Clarkson and Jayden Dinga.
He returned the following year as defending champion and gave up neither the title nor much ground in the final. Chilcott defeated Goode 631–163 in 2025 and compiled century breaks of 100 and 102 during the championship.
The 2026 state title followed another successful tournament earlier in the year. At the ANZRI Billiards and Snooker competition in Hampton, Victoria, from 28 February to 6 March, Chilcott won the individual billiards event before also claiming the individual snooker title.
Three Queensland championships in three years have now followed Chilcott’s move to Redcliffe, but competition is only part of his involvement in the sport. He also uses the Redcliffe club as a base for coaching and introducing other cue-sport players to billiards.
From competitor to coach
Chilcott said he holds World Billiards coaching accreditation and provides individual and group coaching without charge. Queensland’s governing body had also promoted billiards workshops involving Chilcott at Redcliffe Snooker Club ahead of the Queensland Open in 2024.
He said the club has five full-sized snooker and billiards tables and about 150 members, including juniors and female players. His aim is to introduce more people to billiards while helping players from other cue sports develop their skills.
Redcliffe has meanwhile become more than Chilcott’s training base. The club has hosted ranking competition drawing players from outside Queensland and overseas, giving him the chance to compete at a higher level without leaving his home venue.
In the 2024 Queensland Open, Chilcott defeated Chee Yap, Jayden Dinga and Simon Scerri to reach the final at Redcliffe. Peter Gilchrist won the decider 978–589 after compiling breaks of 131, 152 and 118.
Home tables await again
The Queensland Open returned to Redcliffe in 2025 as a World Billiards level-three ranking event. Its presence on the international calendar has placed the local club alongside venues hosting ranking competition beyond the domestic state circuit. Another edition is scheduled at Redcliffe Snooker Club from 20 to 22 November 2026, with the Australian Billiards and Snooker Council listing it as both a World and Australian ranking event.
Chilcott will head into the tournament after a season that has already delivered a billiards and snooker double in Victoria and the Queensland championship he had been chasing for a third straight year.
