Parents Una and Eamonn Shealy are organising Run For Órla to remember their daughter while raising funds in support of Camp Quality, which works with children facing cancer and their families.

Órla died on November 14, 2025, after living with pleuropulmonary blastoma for seven months. The inaugural event falls one day after the first anniversary of her death, giving the gathering particular significance for her family.

Remembering Órla Beyond Her Illness

Born on September 20, 2022, Órla was the middle child in the Shealy family, with older sister Clodagh and younger sister Éireann. Her parents have shared memories of a lively, adventurous child who loved the outdoors, singing, dancing, and watching the moon.

She also had a fondness for dinosaurs, butterflies, Paw Patrol, and Peppa Pig. Those details help explain why her family wants the event to reflect the interests and personality of the little girl they remember, rather than focus only on her illness.

The family has shared Órla’s story through the official fundraising website, including memories of her treasured red blanket and her close relationships with her sisters.

Run For Órla is intended to turn that remembrance into support for other families confronting childhood cancer. The event will bring runners, walkers and families together for a morning of activity, with a broader program designed to welcome people who may not wish to take part in a race.

Support for Families Facing Childhood Cancer

The Shealys have spoken publicly about the support they received from their parish and the wider Redcliffe community during Órla’s illness and after her death. Their fundraiser extends that community connection to families experiencing similar challenges.

Childhood cancer can affect an entire household, including parents and siblings who must navigate treatment, uncertainty and the changes that follow a diagnosis. Camp Quality supports children affected by cancer and their families, making it the beneficiary of the event.

People who cannot attend can also support the fundraiser through donations, sponsorship or by sharing Órla’s story. The official event website provides registration and donation information.

The event’s 10km run is scheduled to start at 6.30am, followed by the 3km run and walk at 8.15am. The 10km is open to participants aged 10 and older, while the shorter course welcomes all ages. Children under 11 must take part with a registered responsible adult.

A family fun day will follow, with live entertainment, children’s activities, games and community stalls listed among the planned attractions.
