Tydal Woody Point: Enhancing Community and Lifestyle on Queensland’s Waterfront

Traders In Purple has unveiled Tydal Woody Point, its 14th residential development, significantly enhancing Queensland’s waterfront real estate landscape.

Located at a historical site once home to the Palace Hotel, renowned for hosting the Bee Gees’ first paid gig, Tydal Woody Point occupies a prime position that blends rich cultural heritage with modern living. The development follows the successful fully-sold projects Marin at Scarborough and Lasail Newport, embodying a continuation of the company’s vision to transform Queensland’s coastal areas.

Tydal offers 104 luxury apartments in two buildings, designed to cater to local downsizers and northern Brisbane residents. These units provide unparalleled ocean views and a serene lifestyle harmonising with the natural surroundings.

Community and Market Impact

Development Director Alex Black described Tydal as an affordable entry into the coastal lifestyle, contrasting sharply with higher-priced regions in Queensland. The development not only offers exceptional water views and city accessibility but also integrates tranquillity with urban connectivity.

The Moreton Bay region, including Woody Point and its environs, has attracted considerable attention with property values increasing by approximately 13.7% over the past year, highlighting its growing appeal.

Design and Amenities

Tydal’s architectural design, conceived by Brisbane-based Ellivo Architects, features a softly curved facade that maximizes scenic vistas. Inspired by the coastal environment, the architecture deeply connects with its settings. Residents can enjoy an array of amenities such as a subtropical pool, an outdoor dining and barbecue area, and a private residents’ lounge, enhancing the quality of life within the community.

The construction of Tydal, managed by Traders In Purple’s in-house team, is part of a broader strategy to consistently and sustainably develop the area, with other significant projects like Marin at Scarborough and Orilla progressing towards completion shortly.

Housing Details

This development not only provides luxurious living options but also plays a crucial role in the revitalization and economic growth of the Moreton Bay area, contributing positively to the local community and its development.

Lighthouse Esplanade in Newport Set for 132-Unit Luxury Development

A significant residential apartment project is on the horizon for Newport, with plans for 132 new units at 21 Lighthouse Esplanade. The proposed development, which already has DA approval, aims to transform the local skyline with two multi-storey buildings.

While the original approval was for 142 dwellings, the current plan seeks minor changes to reduce the yield slightly. The project will maintain a diverse mix of housing options, including 2 and 3-bedroom apartments, 3 and 4-bedroom townhouses, and exclusive pool villas on the podium level.

Traders in Purple, the developer behind the project, has enlisted acclaimed firm Rothelowman for the design.

The development promises to offer residents a luxurious coastal lifestyle, with community amenities including a pool, lounging deck, barbecue area, and a resident lounge for social gatherings and events. The project also addresses parking needs with 271 spaces, ensuring two spots per dwelling.

Several key modifications have been proposed to enhance the development’s design and functionality. Services, loading, and waste collection areas will be relocated to the central core, allowing for new townhouses to activate the south-west corner and improve the park interface.

The ‘L-extension’ wing over the podium level on the southern building will be removed, enhancing the outlook for lake-edge dwellings and minimising privacy concerns.

In response to privacy considerations, pool villas will be reduced from three storeys to one. The originally planned 7th floor rooftop recreation area has been eliminated, with communal recreation facilities redesigned for each stage on the Level 2 podiums.

This marks Traders in Purple’s second venture in Newport, following the successful launch of “Lasail” in 2020. The new development draws inspiration from its predecessor, aiming to replicate the barefoot coastal lifestyle while elevating resident amenities.

“While the project will have its own unique character, the barefoot coastal lifestyle that Lasail offers will be replicated and resident amenity upscaled,” the developer stated.

The Rustic Olive Reopens in New Redcliffe Location

The much-loved Italian restaurant, The Rustic Olive, is now open to the public at its new, more expansive location at 75 Redcliffe Parade, Redcliffe.

After 12 years in its original venue, the restaurant has moved a few doors down to a site with a larger street and water frontage, promising an enhanced dining experience for its loyal patrons.

The new location, first unveiled at a soft opening in late May 2024, features a warm and inviting atmosphere. The design incorporates thoughtful lighting and timber accents, creating an ambience that feels both spacious and intimate. The layout is more open, allowing for comfortable indoor and alfresco dining. This fresh setting exceeded owner Sam Ayache’s expectations, marking a significant milestone in the restaurant’s 17-year journey in Redcliffe.

Ayache, who has been the visionary behind The Rustic Olive since its inception, expressed immense satisfaction with the transformation. The new venue encapsulates his vision of blending outdoor charm with indoor warmth. The team of builders and tradespeople, whom Ayache credits for their exceptional work, have successfully created a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional.

During the soft opening, guests were visibly impressed by the revamped restaurant. The feedback highlighted the establishment’s elevated standard, with many attendees noting the high bar set for dining in Redcliffe. The restaurant maintains the same number of tables as the previous location, but the more spread-out arrangement ensures a more comfortable dining experience. Additionally, relocating the kitchen to the back has resulted in a quieter main dining area, enhancing the overall dining atmosphere.

The strategic corner location of the new venue also simplifies the process for customers picking up takeaway orders. While the menu and operating hours will remain unchanged for the next few months, Ayache plans to introduce a new beverage list and a bar menu to be served between lunch and dinner. Although The Rustic Olive is now licenced, it will continue to offer a BYO option for those who prefer to bring their own alcohol.

Plans include opening on Tuesday nights and expanding the restaurant’s accessibility to its customers. Ayache expressed gratitude towards his team, comprising both long-standing and new staff members, for their hard work in making the move seamless. Bookings will be limited initially as the team settles into the new space and manages the expected high demand.

The lease at the original site’s expiration and the opportunity provided by the availability of the former ERA Bar building were two factors that influenced the decision to move to the new location. Ayache saw this move as a necessary evolution for The Rustic Olive, providing a fresh challenge and an opportunity to enhance the dining experience for the next decade.

Despite the excitement of the new chapter, the move comes with a sense of nostalgia. The original site holds sentimental value for both the staff and the patrons, who have made countless memories there over the past 12 years. However, the team is enthusiastic about the new opportunities and the potential to continue delighting customers in the updated setting.

Ayache believes that adapting to modern changes is crucial for the restaurant’s continued success. He feels fortunate to have a dedicated team that shares his passion for delivering delicious food and outstanding service. As The Rustic Olive settles into its new home, the essence of the restaurant—its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction—remains steadfast.

The Rustic Olive’s reopening at 75 Redcliffe Parade marks the beginning of an exciting new phase, promising to continue its tradition of excellence in a refreshed, contemporary environment.

The proposed site, currently occupied by a residential property scheduled for demolition, aims to enhance local healthcare infrastructure. The ground level will host essential services, including a café and a pharmacy, while the upper floors will accommodate a variety of medical tenancies. Each level is strategically designed with large windows to maintain a connection with the street, promoting an engaging streetscape.

Accessibility and patient convenience are at the forefront of the hub’s design. The building will feature an ambulance bay, disability access, and robust connectivity via Anzac Avenue. In alignment with modern architectural standards, the building will also include acoustic mitigation measures and aesthetic landscaping to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding residential areas.

The healthcare centre’s operational hours are planned from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Keymax has already initiated leasing advertisements, offering flexible tenancy options from 78 sqm. These arrangements come with various benefits, such as prominent signage opportunities and strategic placements conducive to high visibility and accessibility.

This ambitious project aims to significantly improve healthcare accessibility for the Redcliffe community, aligning with the broader urban development goals of the Moreton Bay region. With construction expected to be completed by late next year, the Redcliffe Healthcare Hub is set to become a cornerstone of local healthcare services.

Mixed Reactions to Suttons Beach Pavilion Rebuild Plans

Concept designs for the new Suttons Beach Pavilion have drawn mixed reactions from residents, with some locals calling for the community to have the deciding vote.

Design Competition and Selection

Because of the need to replace the iconic pavilion, which was beyond repair and subsequently demolished, a competition was held, run by professional advisors CityLab and endorsed by the Australian Institute of Architects.

The competition attracted 116 registrations of interest. Initially, 25 stage one entries were considered, then narrowed down to a shortlist of three.

The winning design, by lahznimmo architects with Plummer & Smith, was selected unanimously by a panel of five experts, including Queensland Government Architect Leah Lang.

Mayor Peter Flannery expressed his excitement about the winning design, highlighting its potential to provide residents and visitors with a thoughtfully designed multi-purpose building and a refreshed park area for future generations.

Ms Lang praised the design for its deep understanding of the site’s historical and cultural significance. She noted that the design integrates these elements into its architecture and landscaping, creating a space that bolsters commercial viability, accessibility, social connections, and a versatile landscape for everyday activities and events.

lahznimmo architects’ Director Annabel Lahz shared that her team aimed to create a contemporary pavilion that acknowledges the history of Suttons Beach without merely replicating the original. The design includes various features aimed at enhancing the community space, such as indoor dining, outdoor seating, public amenities, and areas for events or art installations.

Community Reactions

Despite the expert approval, the Suttons Beach Pavilion Preservation Group, which had opposed the demolition, gave the new design qualified support.

A spokesperson from the group described the new concept as a “good start” but expressed disappointment over the lack of more prominent art deco features. He emphasised the importance of capturing the pavilion’s past while meeting modern needs and maintaining economic viability for businesses in the area.

Public reactions on social media have been varied. One local suggested that designs should be put forward for the people to decide, a sentiment echoed by her neighbours, who stated that the Council needs to listen to the community and develop a design that truly reflects the spirit of Suttons Beach.

Another resident appreciated the beachy and summery concept, likening it to Palm Springs, and praised the covered walkway extension. In contrast, yet another resident criticised the design, calling it terrible and expressing hope that it would improve with the addition of trees.

Some community members likewise raised concerns about the lack of shelter for hot summer days and lamented the design’s failure to pay tribute to the original structure. Others suggested a design more akin to an island village and found the lack of an art deco look and sun protection disappointing.

However, another individual found the design stunning, calling it the facelift Redcliffe needs.

Project Background and Funding

The former Suttons Beach Pavilion, which first opened in the 1930s as change rooms and a kiosk, was an iconic landmark on the Redcliffe Peninsula.

However, it was not heritage-listed and had been expanded and sections rebuilt over the decades. Major building defects and concerns led to its demolition, costing $1.94 million. The overall project, including demolition and rebuild, is estimated at $19 million, with $11.33 million secured from the SEQ Liveability Fund.

Council investigations in January 2022 revealed the extent of the building defects, leading to the decision to demolish the structures. This decision prompted a grassroots community campaign lobbying the council to restore or rebuild the pavilion.

Mayor Peter Flannery expressed his excitement about the progress around the new mixed-use facility at Suttons Beach and emphasized the importance of revitalising the area.

Cr Karl Winchester described the project as a unique opportunity to return this iconic destination to community use and allow a new generation to enjoy it anew. Council is looking forward to engaging the successful candidates to deliver more detailed building designs for this beloved foreshore location.

As demolition concludes and design development progresses, the community awaits the final version of the new Suttons Beach Pavilion, hoping it will balance modern needs with historical significance.

Dolphins vs Storm: Phins Chase Another Upset Against Table-Toppers Melbourne

The Dolphins will look to pull off another boilover when they host leaders Melbourne Storm on Friday, June 21. Wayne Bennett’s men are brimming with confidence after toppling the Sharks last round and need just one more win to match their inaugural season victory tally. Dolphins vs Storm kickoff 8:00 p.m. Suncorp Stadium.

Read: Redcliffe Roars with the World’s First Pier Double Backflip

Injury boosts for both sides

While the hosts lose Queensland stars Felise Kaufusi and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow to Origin duties, they regain Jesse Bromwich from a rib injury. Exciting winger Tesi Niu is also a chance to return from an ankle issue.

For the Storm, Trent Loiero is set to be released from Maroons camp to play, while Ryan Papenhuyzen could make his long-awaited comeback from an ankle problem.

Dolphins vs Storm

The Dolphins’ attack has been firing on all cylinders, scoring at least 20 points in their past six outings. Winger Jack Bostock has crossed for 10 tries in his last 11 games. As Bromwich is passed fit, Bennett’s pack receives another major boost.

Despite being without Maroons duo Harry Grant and Xavier Coates, Melbourne’s depth remains the envy of most clubs. Jahrome Hughes has been instrumental in nine of their 10 wins this season, while Nick Meaney has amassed 62 points in his last four outings alone. The returning Papenhuyzen would also be a huge addition.

One concerning stat for Dolphins fans is that Bennett’s teams have now lost 11 straight against Melbourne. However, this Dolphins outfit continues to exceed expectations and will fancy their chances of an upset on home soil.

Jeremy Marshall-King extends

In a major boost ahead of the crunch clash, the Dolphins locked in a key part of their future by extending dummy-half Jeremy Marshall-King’s deal until 2028. The Kiwi international has been a revelation since joining the club and forms a crucial part of their long-term spine plans.

Redcliffe Roars with the World’s First Pier Double Backflip

Redcliffe has become the stage for a groundbreaking motorbike stunt as Australian rider Harry Bink successfully executed the world’s first double backflip on a pier.

The daring feat, performed at the iconic Redcliffe Jetty in front of a massive crowd, adds another layer of excitement to the city’s anticipation of the Fox Australian Supercross Championship, set to return to Kayo Stadium on the 12th of October.

Bink’s journey to this historic moment was a spectacle in itself. He began with a base jump from a helicopter onto Moreton Island, followed by a boat ride with The Mad Hueys to the mainland. Finally, he mounted his motorbike and took to the jetty for the record-breaking stunt.

“Doing it here on the jetty was truly wild,” Bink exclaimed, describing the unique sensation of performing the backflip high above the water, with the added pressure of a large audience. “When I did the first rotation, it felt like I was three times higher than usual. The crowd’s energy was insane.”

Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery extended a warm welcome to the supercross community, acknowledging the event’s significance in showcasing the region’s diverse offerings. “This is an incredible opportunity to showcase everything our city has to offer,” he stated. “We encourage fans to stay and explore the beautiful beaches and hinterland of Moreton Bay.”

Ticket pre-sales commenced today, with general sales set to begin on Friday, 14th of June. As Redcliffe basks in the glow of Bink’s extraordinary achievement, the city gears up for an adrenaline-fueled supercross season that promises thrills both on and off the track.
