Due to high public safety risk, the Moreton Bay Regional Council has decided that it is best to relocate the Gayundah Shipwreck Bow to the rear side of the wreck site.
Despite the number of warnings and signages present, as well as having improved fencing on the location of the shipwreck, some people continue to climb over and even go inside the heavily rusted structure of the HMQS Gayundah.
According to Spokesperson for Asset Maintenance Councillor Adam Hain, having people nearby, or even worse, on the wreck itself, presents great concern for the Council since the shipwreck’s structure is deteriorating. The Gayundah shipwreck is also currently on the verge of collapsing anytime soon.
“The Gayundah shipwreck was placed at the base of the Woody Point cliffs way back in 1958 but the condition of the ship has deteriorated greatly in recent years,” Cr Hain said.
“In 2016 the top part of the bow collapsed and is now resting precariously on the hull. The bow is considered likely to eventually fall further, and Council is concerned this may injure a member of the public.”

Relocation of the Bow
The Council has no choice but to call in a professional contractor to remove and relocate the collapsed part of the Gayundah Shipwreck bow into the hull of the wreck.
Cr Adam Hain said that a crane would be used for this relocation process that will take place in the next coming weeks, should all approvals from relevant government agencies be obtained.
“We’ve received an independent safety analysis report that recommended a number of interventions, including relocation of the ship’s bow which is at risk of collapsing at any moment, and increasing public awareness of the danger posed by the wreck.”
“The bow will be carefully removed via crane, and relocated into the rear of the wreck, which is a more desirable outcome for the heritage values, rather than letting it fall and break on impact,” he said.
Further information with regards to the exact day and time of the relocation will be announced soon.
Moreton Bay Regional Council unanimously approved the development application for a solar farm at Beachmere, which will have more than two hundred thousand solar panels that could power 12,000 households.
The approved Beachmere solar farm is a 67-hectare land located at 260 Wallace Rd North, Beachmere. Having a solar farm of this size means that it could generate up to 50 megawatts of energy each day—this is three times more than what the Sunshine Coast Regional Council-owned farm could generate.
Residents of the Moreton Bay Region are seen to be more keen when it comes to having sustainable and renewable energy given Queensland’s overall vulnerability to climate change. In fact, data from the latest Climate Council report show that Elimbah is the top suburb amongst 25 Queensland suburbs that has an outstanding record of 70.6% of dwellings with installed solar rooftop.
Bright and Sustainable Moreton Bay Region
Given the number of infrastructures that are placed and soon to be built at Moreton Bay Region, Council Spokesperson for Economic Development and Division 2 Councillor, Peter Flannery mentioned that is it is without a doubt that this region is one of the fastest-growing regions of Queensland today. And having this solar farm built will lead into a better, brighter and more sustainable future for Moreton Bay.
Beachmere too will benefit greatly from this project. The solar farm construction and operation would open a number of jobs for locals to take. And more importantly, the image of Beachmere—a simple coastal town, as a site taking and leading the charge for this project will definitely boost the area’s popularity.
According to Councillor Peter Flannery, the Beachmere solar farm is the first wide-scale renewable energy project of the region. This solar farm will feed and provide solar-powered energy directly into the grid—alleviating pressure from Energex, a power distributor whose main line runs through the site location.
“Energex supported the development as a means of alleviating pressure on the grid and it aligns with the Queensland Government guidelines for solar farms — designed to help Queensland achieve a 50% renewable energy generation target by 2030,” Cr Flannery said.
Cr Flannery also believed that this type of investment will usher a change for the often-overlooked Beachmere.
“This solar farm could herald the beginning of a bright and sustainable future for the Moreton Bay Region and I’m thrilled to see Beachmere leading the charge,” Cr Flannery said.
The construction of the Beachmere solar farm is expected to be completed in a span of 12 months. During the construction, the developer is required to have a 10-metre landscape buffer along all adjoining properties near the site.
Mitsubishi Australia has announced a mass recall of 6,384 units of the Mitsubishi Pajero. If you’ve bought this SUV around the 21st of Nov 2016 to the 30th of July 2019, you’re advised to head to the Redcliffe dealer at 218 Anzac Avenue, or your preferred dealer, as soon as possible to correct the problem.
The Mitsubishi Pajero recall covers models MY2017-18 the NX-series. According to the carmaker, these vehicles have “inadequate welding strength” which could break and lead to a failure of the front right side suspension lower control arm. If this happens, the driver might feel instability and loss of control of the steering wheel.
To prevent an accident, Mitsubishi Pajero owners are encouraged to visit the dealer for the repair. Check if your car is affected.
Owners of the defective Mitsubishi Pajero model should also receive a notification from the carmaker via direct mail. If you have not received yours, you may phone 1800 931 811 for further information and guidance, or 1300 131 211 to get in touch with your preferred dealer.
Please note that the welding repair is a free service and you must take this opportunity to get your Mitsubishi Pajero checked.

Flock Eatery is an all-day breakfast cafe at Redcliffe that offers its customers a wholesome menu and an excellent farm-to-plate dining experience.
Since its opening in April of 2017, Flock Eatery has been making its name known not just within the Redcliffe neighbourhood but also within the entire Moreton Bay region.
What makes Flock Eatery special?
Compared to other established cafes, Flock Eatery deeply cares about the environment as much as they care about their customers’ needs. It is a cafe that strives for sustainability, low waste, and community building.
Putting more emphasis on sustainability and low waste, Flock Eatery’s kitchen compost items, namely fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grinds, coffee cups, egg shells, and other organic waste are composted at LOOP.Growers farm in Samford.
These organic items help feed the worms at the farm, and the LOOP.Growers in return cycle back the material as fresh produce; hence making this entire cycle a ‘closed loop’ system.
In addition to the cafe’s sustainability belief, Flock Eatery also supports various local businesses. In fact, the cafe’s tableware came from a local potter- Redraku, whilst their coffee is roasted locally by Tim Adams.

Flock Eatery also works hand-in-hand with local farmers to ensure that the cafe receives the freshest seasonal local produce from the Moreton Bay Region. And since there is no middleman involved—meaning the cafe has a direct trade relationship to the farmers—the farmers themselves get to receive the money that they deserve.
Awards Received
With Flock Eatery’s drive and continuous practice for sustainability as well as its focus on having a sincere farm-to-plate dining style, it is no wonder that this Redcliffe cafe has landed numerous awards.

The Redcliffe community has come together to raise more than $81,000 in funds for the medical expenses and recovery of a toddler involved in a freak accident at the Redcliffe Paceway.
On Sunday, the 24th of March 2019, two-year-old Lara Whitaker was standing by the sidelines with her father Gary Whitaker, a prominent harness racing driver, her mom Joedy, and her one-year-old brother when the gate of a pace vehicle smashed towards the family after it failed to retract.
The toddler was rushed to the Queensland Children’s Hospital where doctors determined she suffered massive injuries to her face and abdomen. Her condition has stabilised but she remains in critical care.
The rest of the family were also treated for cuts and minor injuries.
Following the accident, Australian Trotting Driving Champion Scott McCarthy set up a GoFundMe page for the Whitakers. Initially, the fundraising effort had a goal of $5,000 but generous donations from the community, especially from different racing clubs, poured in.
Nine days following the accident, the GoFundMe page received nearly $80,000. Within a month of the fundraising effort, 385 people have donated to help little Lara with her medical expenses and recovery.
A total of 32 peak-time weekly services will be coming to Redcliffe Peninsula and six other QR lines beginning 13 May 2019.
To help reduce the waiting time for customers in South East Queensland, Queensland Rail is set to add extra train services at times when they are needed most. This means that an extra 14,000 seats will be added during certain peak periods across SEQ.
In response to customer feedback, Queensland Rail analysed patronage data, wait times, and operational efficiencies, and identified 32 priority weekly services which are needed to be added during morning and afternoon peak hours.
Those who will benefit from this initiative are customers on Shorncliffe, Cleveland, Redcliffe Peninsula, Ferny Grove, Springfield, Gold Coast and Airport lines.
