Super Blue Full Moon 2018: When and Where to Watch in Redcliffe

There will be a rare lunar event on the 31st of January. The moment is exceptional as three moon phenomena will take place at the same time.

There will be a full moon which will be a “blue moon”, an occurrence that happens every two to three years. This “blue full moon” will also be a “supermoon”, a moon phenomenon that only happens every 150 years when the moon is in its closest proximity to Earth in a single orbit.

These two events will also coincide with a total lunar eclipse. So as the Earth is in between the sun and the moon, sunlight has to pass the Earth’s atmosphere and the moon will appear to be red.

The last time this simultaneous phenomenon happened was in March 1866. According to reports, after the episode on 31st January 2018, the event will not happen again until December 2028 and January 2037.

One of the best locations to enjoy the super blue full moon is in Redcliffe, where one can witness the event whilst attending a community guided meditation in Suttons Beach at 50 Marine Parade.

The moon will rise at 6.27pm over Moreton Island. The meet-up will be on the sand out the front of the Suttons Beach pavilion restaurant building. The meditation session will start at 6:50 p.m.

Here’s the schedule of the lunar eclipse as expected to be seen over Redcliffe.

Russian National Ballet Theatre to Perform at Redcliffe Cultural Centre

The Russian National Ballet Theatre is performing two of the world’s most precious classics – “The Nutcracker” and William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” – at the stage of the Redcliffe Cultural Centre. Russian artist Evgeny Amosov has choreographed both of the two acts.

The company has regularly performed in Australia and is back this year after a successful tour of the “Swan Lake” in 2016. They have been scheduled to present in approximately 50 towns and cities from September to December.

Russian National Ballet Theatre is part of the Russian National Ballet S.Radchenko which was founded in 1989 by one of Russia’s honoured artists, Sergei Radchenko. At the time, only one troupe of dancers, called The Moscow Festival Ballet, was performing. After being overwhelmed by request for international tours, Mr Radchenko decided to form the Russian National Ballet Theatre.

Today, the dance company makes sure that each of the troupe tours in separate groups in order to reach audiences in smaller towns aside from the capital cities.

“We wish to give people the opportunity to experience classical Russian ballet, one of Russia’s great cultural heritages as passed down to us through the ages.”

“The Nutcracker” on 19th December at 7:30 pm

“The Nutcracker” is a classic Christmas story ballet which presents the events that took place in one family’s Christmas Eve celebration. The story centres on Marie Stahlbaum’s favourite Christmas Toy, the Nutcracker. It comes alive, defeats the villain Mouse King, and takes her to a magical kingdom.

“The Nutcracker” has its history deeply rooted in Moscow where it was first commissioned in 1891 by the director of Moscow’s Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhsky. It premiered a week before Christmas in 1892 and was never performed outside Russia until 1943 in England and 1944 in the U.S. It has since become the most popular ballet act being presented during Christmas season.

It’s Confirmed! Queen’s Baton Is Coming to Redcliffe

The Queen’s Baton will be the starring attraction at the 2018 Redcliffe Festival of Sails on Good Friday, the 30th of March, the Moreton Bay Regional Council announced on the 17th of November. The baton will be carried from the front of Council’s administrative building on Irene Street and would proceed along Redcliffe parade, through the markets, up in Marine Parade and onto the main stage on Suttons Beach.

The journey of the Queen’s Baton began at Buckingham Palace during Commonwealth Day held on the 13th of March 2017. During the ceremony, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II placed her message for the Commonwealth and its athletes into the Baton and entrusted the first chosen Batonbearer to travel with it. The baton has since started its journey through the entire Commonwealth, 388 days and 230,000 kilometres, until it arrives in Australia on the 25th of December 2017 and subsequently in Redcliffe.

All Redcliffe locals are being encouraged to get involved in the celebrations, Moreton Bay Regional Mayor Allan Sutherland said during the announcement.

“The Baton’s arrival is the perfect way to kick-start the region’s iconic Easter celebrations – which will include the Redcliffe Festival of Sails and the Good Friday Redcliffe Jetty Markets along Redcliffe Parade,” he said.

“We want as many locals as possible to be part of the Baton’s journey around the world and share in the excitement of GC2018. So get on down to the Redcliffe Parade and Suttons Beach and be a part of history!”

The baton will then travel to the Gold Coast for the XX1 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on the 4th of April 2018. His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will then read the Queen’s message from the baton to officially start the games.
