Volunteers of The Breakfast Club can now serve more homeless people in southeast Queensland as they are now using a van to serve the community.
Thanks to a $46,181 grant from the Dignity First Fund of the State Government, the charity organisation was able to purchase a van, which they can use to reach out to people living on the streets, in their vehicles or those who are on low or fixed incomes and struggling to make ends meet.
Since 2003, The Breakfast Club has been operating from Redcliffe CWA Hall. But since a lot of people are not always able to go there, the group is happy that with the van, they can expand their services to reach areas from Brighton to Deception Bay.
Yvette D’Ath, State Labor MP for Redcliffe thinks that the new service is invaluable for the community. She stressed that each person has the right to live with dignity in spite of their circumstances. The Breakfast Club is supporting that idea as it provides people in need with a welcoming environment.
The charity organisation, which serves more than 900 free meals every month, hopes to ultimately have a permanent home or drop-in centre. They provide free breakfast from 6am to 7:30am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They serve free dinner every Tuesday and Thursday from 4pm to 4:30pm.

Country music enthusiasts in Redcliffe have something to celebrate as the Redcliffe Country Music Club marks its 40th year this Sunday, February 5.
The event will see performances from local artist, Deano, as well as the Brigalow Country Community Club. There will also be walk-up artists to be featured in this celebration of country music.
Aside from entertaining musical performances, there will also be raffles, giveaways, food, drinks, and a whole lot of fun.
Old and new members of the club will find this as an excellent time to reminisce and get to know the other members, all while enjoying good ol’ country music.
The celebration will happen at the Redcliffe Showgrounds. Admission will be by donation, with all proceeds going to the Peninsula Animal Aid.
Visit the club’s Facebook page for more information.
