Two Woody Point streets are being resurfaced this week, with Ellen Street and Georgina Street the latest local roads to come under City of Moreton Bay’s wider road renewal program.
Work on Ellen Street, between Blakeney Street and Oxley Avenue, is scheduled to begin on 2 September and take about a week. Crews are due to move onto Georgina Street from 3 September, working between Oxley Avenue and Kate Street, including the roundabout.
The Woody Point works follow resurfacing in neighbouring Clontarf last month. Redcliffe Gardens Drive, from MacDonnell Road to Grice Street and including Pine Street, was scheduled for work from 2 August, with Council allowing about a week for that job as well.
More Peninsula Streets Are on the List
The timing is part of a much broader program rather than a cluster of one-off repairs. City of Moreton Bay has allocated $56.86 million to road rehabilitation and resurfacing across the city in its 2026–27 budget.
Division 6, which includes Woody Point, Clontarf, Margate and Redcliffe as well as parts of Kippa-Ring and Scarborough, has a number of roads in line for renewal. Redcliffe Gardens Drive and Brewer Street in Clontarf are specifically named in the budget, along with Humpybong Esplanade and Knight Street in Redcliffe.
Council’s current roadworks schedule shows several of those jobs landing within days of each other. Knight Street was due to start on 1 September, while work on Ella Street between John Street and Marine Parade in Redcliffe was listed to begin on 2 September.
Resurfacing is carried out to improve the condition, rideability and safety of roads, extend the life of the surface and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance. The treatment depends on the condition of each road and can include asphalt resurfacing and associated minor civil works.
A Week of Roadworks Around Woody Point
For people living around Ellen and Georgina streets, the immediate concern will be getting around while the crews are working.
Council advises motorists to expect changed traffic conditions around planned roadworks, which can include reduced speed limits and detours. Temporary signs and directions from crews will apply while work is under way.
The dates are not set in stone either. Weather and other circumstances can change the start or completion of scheduled roadworks.
With the Ellen Street and Georgina Street jobs starting only a day apart, both should be active around Woody Point at much the same time. For residents, that means a short spell of local disruption; in the bigger picture, it is another sign of the Peninsula’s road renewal program moving from street to street.
