Cancer patients on the Redcliffe Peninsula now have another option for receiving radiation therapy closer to home, with a new $30 million medical centre opening its doors at 6 Silvyn Street.
The Altiva Health facility officially opened on Tuesday, 20 October, bringing together a purpose-built GenesisCare radiation therapy clinic and Qscan medical imaging and radiology services. The centre was developed by Allamanni Developments on a 4,500-square-metre site.
A Shorter Journey For Cancer Treatment
The opening gives patients undergoing radiation therapy an alternative to travelling further from the peninsula for specialist appointments, potentially reducing time spent away from home and family support networks. GenesisCare Queensland Medical Director Dr Marie Burke OAM said the clinic was already welcoming patients, with specialist doctors and radiation therapy professionals available to provide care.

Dr Burke acknowledged the difficulties patients and their families can face while managing a cancer diagnosis, treatment schedules and travel between appointments. Having access to radiation therapy within their own area could ease some of those demands. The clinic has been fitted with a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator and an AlignRT surface-guided system, designed to assist with precise positioning and radiation delivery.
According to GenesisCare, the equipment can provide image-guided treatment with sub-millimetre accuracy across a range of tumour types. Radiation therapy forms part of cancer treatment for many Australians. Modelling cited by GenesisCare estimates that 48.3 per cent of people diagnosed with cancer could benefit from it. Queensland records more than 35,000 cancer diagnoses each year, with prostate cancer, melanoma and breast cancer among the most commonly diagnosed types.
Cancer Care And Imaging Under One Roof
Alongside the radiation therapy clinic, Qscan operates one of its flagship medical imaging and radiology centres at Altiva Health, placing diagnostic services and specialist cancer treatment within the same medical complex. Allamanni Developments Acquisitions Manager Irina Monnier said the project had been designed to accommodate healthcare providers offering complementary services, with GenesisCare and Qscan forming the centre’s initial group of tenants.
Queensland Health Minister Tim Nicholls attended the opening and welcomed the addition of radiation therapy services to the growing Redcliffe and Moreton Bay area. The facility was privately developed, although information released for the opening did not specify patient fees or arrangements for accessing publicly funded radiation therapy.
GenesisCare’s clinic is now operating and accepting patients, while Qscan provides medical imaging and radiology services at the site. One tenancy remains available at Altiva Health, leaving space for another healthcare provider to establish services alongside the existing clinics.
