New Suttons Beach Pavilion Takes Shape On Redcliffe Foreshore

The foundations of Suttons Beach’s new waterfront destination are now taking shape, with 160 cubic metres of concrete poured for the ground floor of the long-awaited pavilion.

The slab will form the base of the main building, which is planned as the centrepiece of a new hospitality offering with indoor and outdoor food and beverage options.

Construction began in February, with crews completing several key jobs before the concrete pour.

Key Groundwork Completed

Piling has been completed, the elevator pit foundation has been built and ground infrastructure for power and water has been installed. The 1998 rotunda has also been relocated to another part of the site and will provide an additional shaded seating option. Bricks from the old structure will be repurposed in landscaping.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the project was progressing well and described the concrete base as a significant step in the build.

He said: “Now the concrete base – the ground floor of the new main building – will soon be complete, a huge milestone for the build.”

The pavilion is being designed as a waterfront hospitality destination, with indoor and outdoor food and beverage spaces, a rooftop area and a public viewing deck with ocean views. The project also includes accessible toilets, accessible showers and a Changing Places facility.

Broader Suttons Beach Redevelopment

The building forms part of a broader revitalisation of the Suttons Beach park area, with additional shade features planned across the precinct. The relocated rotunda will provide another shaded seating option as part of the broader park revitalisation.

The new pavilion is planned to provide a mix of indoor and outdoor food and beverage options for residents and visitors. Construction of the pavilion structure is due to finish around mid-2027, weather permitting. Fit-outs of the tenanted spaces will commence afterwards.

The Australian and Queensland administrations are jointly funding $12.1 million through the South East Queensland Liveability Fund, with the City of Moreton Bay also contributing to the project.

Federal Member for Petrie Emma Comer described the concrete pour as an exciting milestone for a project with strong community significance, while Division 6 Councillor Karl Winchester said residents were counting down the days until the pavilion opens.

The latest work marks a significant step in construction of the new pavilion, which is planned to become the centrepiece of a revitalised hospitality precinct at Suttons Beach.
