Redcliffe Charity Tribe Social Belonging Launches ‘Miles for Smiles’

Redcliffe charity Tribe Social Belonging is taking its fundraising efforts on the road with the launch of its inaugural annual event, the Miles for Smiles Rally.

The two-day car rally is scheduled to begin at 8am on Saturday, August 22, from the Tribe Clubhouse on Oxley Avenue. Participants will follow a rural route featuring pit stops, challenges and games before an overnight stop at the historic Linville Hotel near Blackbutt.

The event will raise awareness of Tribe’s work and funds to help continue its community programs throughout the year.

At the overnight stop, participants will gather for music, food, drinks, raffles and other activities, with some hotel rooms available. The rally will then return to Redcliffe on Sunday, August 23, finishing at the Tribe Clubhouse at 4pm.

Tribe founder Ryan Elson said the rally would include a scavenger hunt, visits to different places, photography challenges and opportunities to support local shops along the route. The planned drive covers about 120km from Redcliffe to the Linville Hotel, giving participants a chance to travel through the region as part of the fundraising event.

Building connection in the community

Tribe Social Belonging began in 2018 with small community gatherings and has since grown into an organisation supporting thousands of people each year across Queensland. The organisation was established to create opportunities for people who feel lonely, disconnected or overlooked to find a sense of belonging.

Its work includes community events, social activities, NDIS supports, and programs such as Tribe Drive and The Tribe Silver Circle. Tribe Drive provides transport assistance and community access for people facing barriers, while The Tribe Silver Circle focuses on older members of the community who may feel isolated or overlooked.

The Tribe Clubhouse in Redcliffe operates as a social enterprise café, bar and community hub, hosting activities including art sessions, gaming, karaoke, and live music.

Across its programs, Tribe describes its approach as being based on human connection rather than formality, with volunteers, supporters, staff, and community members contributing to its work.

Fundraising for future programs

Miles for Smiles adds a new fundraising event to Tribe’s calendar as the organisation continues supporting its community programs. Elson said funds raised through the rally would help Tribe continue putting on free community programs.

The organisation has also outlined plans for more activities at its Clubhouse, including live music and comedy nights, as well as the return of its Where We Belong Festival in 2027.

The inaugural Miles for Smiles Rally will run from Saturday, August 22 to Sunday, August 23, beginning and ending at the Tribe Social Belonging Clubhouse at 4/457 Oxley Avenue, Redcliffe.
