Redcliffe’s Peninsula Support Hub is marking its first year of operation during Homelessness Week, with The Breakfast Club serving 14,563 free meals and thousands of support connections recorded through the facility over the past 12 months.
The purpose-built facility at 49 Portwood Street is home to The Breakfast Club and The Salvation Army. Services available at the site include case management, housing referrals, meals, laundry and shower facilities, and social connection. Homelessness Week runs from 3 to 9 August.
Peninsula Support Hub Records First-Year Activity
The Breakfast Club recorded 7,052 hub connections during its first year at the facility, alongside the 14,563 free meals served. It also facilitated 2,501 showers, completed 1,057 loads of washing and provided 2,799 food hampers.
The Hub also recorded 1,160 connections over the past year, with two-thirds of support relating to financial and housing assistance. Other support covered mental health, legal and emotional assistance, DFV and spiritual support. Community members were also connected with housing pathways, essential services and practical assistance.
Redcliffe Facility Brings Services Together
The facility was developed to bring frontline services together in one location. City of Moreton Bay invested $3.7 million, while a further $3 million came through the State’s South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program.
The Breakfast Club and The Salvation Army operate from the site under $1-a-year leases. Both service providers were involved during development so the building could meet their operational needs.
City of Moreton Bay also works with Coast2Bay Housing and Bric Housing through its Community Leasing for Social and Affordable Housing Project, providing land through low-cost, long-term leases for new community housing complexes. More than $2.28 million in development fees and infrastructure charges has been waived for eligible community and affordable housing projects.
Support Continues At Portwood Street
The Salvation Army operates from the Redcliffe site from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
The Breakfast Club operates from 7am to 8am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, it operates from 9am to 1pm and again from 4pm to 5.30pm.
The Peninsula Support Hub remains open for services at 49 Portwood Street, Redcliffe. A list of emergency food relief and other support providers is also available through City of Moreton Bay.
