Designing for Comfort
Launched in December at 35 Redcliffe Parade, this hybrid space defies standard retail logic. Why stick to a predictable cafe layout? Owner Cei Heck decided to follow her intuition instead. She filled the rooms with vintage Chesterfield sofas, leafy plants, and shelves of books.
It was a massive collaborative effort shaped by input from the local crowd. Visitors now frequently describe the atmosphere as feeling incredibly safe and cosy. They come here specifically to recharge.
Accessibility by Design
Drawing heavily on Heck’s background managing a National Disability Insurance Scheme provider, the building layout treats accessibility as a foundational requirement rather than a hasty afterthought. Wide walkways easily accommodate wheelchairs.
Patrons can choose exactly how they want to interact with the environment. Do you want to join a noisy group or sit completely alone? Heck noted that the floor plan allows individuals to blend into the background if they simply need to breathe and take a break from the world.
A Platform for Creators
The support extends far beyond coffee and comfortable seating. Regional artisans use the location as a retail shop to sell their custom timber pieces, handmade gifts, and poured candles. Heck believes anything crafted with passion deserves a proper audience.
This culture of deep respect actively shapes the workplace environment too. Two teenage female staff members recently shared that working at the venue made them feel genuinely heard, a revelation that Heck found deeply moving.
Gathering Spaces for Everyone
What does the future hold for this unique hub? The goal is continuous growth as a welcoming home for celebrations, club meetings, and wellness workshops. Community groups of up to 30 people can reserve non-exclusive areas for absolutely free during the day. Those needing more privacy can hire exclusive rooms starting at $30 per hour during normal business hours, which includes audio-visual equipment and catering options. For larger evening functions, after-hours rates begin at $200 per hour.
