One of the Redcliffe Peninsula’s longest-running sporting events has a new name, with registrations now open for the 2027 Moreton Bay Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon, which will once again bring thousands of runners to the waterfront, starting from Pelican Park in Clontarf.

The new identity was announced on 30 October 2026, marking another change for an event that has grown from a local running competition into a major fixture on Queensland’s sporting calendar. The 2027 race is scheduled for Sunday 18 July, with early-bird entries opening on Monday 2 November.
Although Moreton Bay now features prominently in the event’s name, its connection to the Redcliffe Peninsula remains unchanged. The course will continue to showcase the coastal suburbs that have helped make Jetty 2 Jetty a familiar event for generations of local runners.
From a local running event to a marathon
Jetty 2 Jetty began in 1986 through the efforts of Moreton Bay Road Runners, a club that remains involved in the event four decades later.
The race celebrated its 40th anniversary in July 2026, attracting a record 6,000 participants from 12 countries and every Australian state and territory, according to organisers.
The anniversary also marked a milestone for longer-distance competitors. After introducing an invitation-only marathon in 2025, organisers opened the full 42.2km distance to the public for the first time in 2026.
The expanded event has given experienced marathon runners another reason to visit the Peninsula while retaining shorter distances for families, recreational runners and people taking part in their first organised race.
Peninsula waterfront remains central to the course
Pelican Park at Clontarf will remain the main event precinct, with the course taking participants along the waterfront through Woody Point, Margate, Redcliffe and Scarborough.
For local residents, the route passes through familiar coastal neighbourhoods rather than a purpose-built sporting venue. It also gives visiting competitors a view of the Peninsula’s foreshore, including the public spaces that residents use throughout the year.
Organisers have confirmed six race categories for 2027: the 42.2km marathon, 21.1km half-marathon, 10km run, 10km wheelchair event, 5km and 3km.
The range allows participants to select a distance suited to their experience, from the full marathon to shorter events accessible to families and recreational walkers.
What the growing event means for Redcliffe
Beyond the racing itself, Jetty 2 Jetty has become an important visitor event for businesses across the Peninsula.
Tourism and Events Moreton Bay estimates that the 2026 edition attracted 9,462 participants and supporters, generating approximately 1,830 visitor nights. Those figures are organiser estimates rather than independently verified economic results.
Accommodation providers, cafes, restaurants and other businesses are among those positioned to benefit when competitors and their supporters travel to the area.
The organisers are also developing the marathon’s international connections. A sister-marathon relationship with Japan’s Shizuoka Marathon has been established as part of broader ties between Moreton Bay and Shizuoka City.
The new branding is intended to make the host city more recognisable to runners outside Queensland while building on the event’s established Peninsula identity.
Early-bird entries open for July 2027
Registrations for the 2027 marathon opened on 2 November, with early-bird pricing available until 31 January 2027, subject to places remaining available.
Adult early-bird fees range from $35 for the 3km event to $200 for the full marathon, excluding processing fees. Reduced children’s rates are available for the 3km and 5km distances.
Organisers have warned that some distances may reach capacity before the advertised closing date. The half-marathon, 10km and 5km events sold out in 2026.
